This year’s presentation of the UFCU Scholarship Awards was held on Saturday, June 7 in the newly renovated UFCU community room. Over $24,000 was recommended by the Scholarship Committee and approved by the Board of Directors for distribution to 25 UFCU student members. For the first time this year, and in recognition of UFCU 55th anniversary celebration Special Designation Scholarship Awards were presented to three outstanding students. Katherine Lantuh received the $3,000 Walter Hawrylak Award; Gregory Siviy the $2,250 Walter Andrushin Award; Brendan Kopinsky the $1,500 Bohdan Wenglowsky Award; and Angelina Karpenko received the $1,000 UFCU Board of Directors Award.

Oleg Lebedko, presented the Walter Hawrylak Scholarship Award to the family of Kathryn Lantuh, who was unable to attend the award ceremony.
Walter Hawrylak was one of the original founders of the Rochester Ukrainian Federal Credit Union in 1953. He served on the Board of Directors and was Treasurer/Manager till 1987. He also was a director of the Ukrainian National Association (UNA) and served on the Board of Directors of the Ukrainian Civic Center on Joseph Ave.
William Andrushin, Esq., was one of the credit union’s original founders. He served as the first President of the Board of Directors and as legal counsel to the credit union for over 20 years.
Bohdan Wenglowsky, Esq. was a long-time credit union volunteer serving on the Educational committee as co-editor of the Dumka. He was the second President of the Board of Directors and legal counsel to the credit union.
